Episode to Watch: Practice Date

Amy Poehler is hands-down one of the funniest comedians of our generation. Both her writing and comedic execution are incredible. It’s no wonder that “Parks and Recreation” has enjoyed such a vital run- currently in its sixth season on NBC. The premise is hilariously accurate; the writing- sublime.

On the top of our list of FAVORITE episodes is “Practice Date”, episode four, season two. This particular episode is without a doubt one of the funniest, most SFAR perfect shows of the series.

“What if I get drunk and talk about Darfur too much? Or not enough?”

“What if he shows up with another woman?” “What if my sleeve catches on fire, and spreads rapidly?”

Co-worker DRAMA

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 1.14.32 AMI was riding my bike on my university’s campus the other evening when I heard two women loudly arguing. I looked around to see where the noise was coming from and realized it was a pair of ladies sitting next to one another on a bench- so close they were obviously friends- but were shouting VERY loudly at each other.

As I rode closer, I heard the following conversation…

Album Love: Tegan and Sara “Heartthrob”

It’s rare these days to buy an actual CD. The feeling of removing the plastic wrapping, the sticker at the top, then sliding the disc into the CD player- it’s become almost foreign. Everything is digital and downloadable. Having acquired a selection of recent albums in the past week, we’ve been rediscovering what’s great about finding the perfect CD. Tegan and Sara’s “Heartthrob” is definitely at the top of the list. From beginning to end the album has a great sound. Some favorite songs include “Closer” (obviously), “Couldn’t Be Your Friend”, and “Shock To Your System”. “Closer” has been on our personal playlists for months, but the complete album was a wonderful and pleasant discovery. So many SFAR themes.

This is the perfect album to turn on full blast while you’re driving home from work, hanging out at your apartment or getting ready to go out with your girlfriends. With the volume maxed out these jams are at their best, though that should go without saying. We hope you love it too. Turn it up and dance it out!

Find Heartthrob on iTunes here.

Older, Not Wiser

I met this guy at a back-to-school event. He’s a grad student in my department, I’m an undergrad. I’d never seen him around, as there’s not a ton of crossover between the graduate students & undergrads in our programs. But we got along well, and he got my number at the end of the night.

A few days later, he calls? texts? I can’t remember, asking me out for a drink at the on-campus bar. I was game, so I said sure, and we met up there. He was a bit awkward, but we started chatting. At some point early in the evening, he mentioned that I “”look like I’m 14 (this should have been a tip-off… ) A. Thanks? B. I gather that to mean he finds 14 year-old girls attractive. Creepy. But of course, this is in hindsight… Continue reading
