Upright Citizens Brigade is one of our favorite sources of comedy in New York City. Really anything related to Amy Poehler has our stamp of approval, and UCB improv is no exception. Here is a video by UCB Theater, starring one of our dear friends, the great Jocelyn DeBoer.

Man Protests All You Can Eat Buffet

A man in Wisconsin has made headlines for protesting a local all-you-can-eat-fish buffet restaurant for alledgedly failing to give him all the fish his heart desired.

Bill Wisth, a 6-foot-6-inches tall and 350 lb man was in fact so outraged that he first called the police (shockingly they didn’t give a damn) and has since been picketing outside the restaurant, an activity he pledges to day every Sunday going forward.

According to the Associated Press, waitstaff at the restaurant report that Wisth has been a problem patron for years and “has a substantial tab he hasn’t yet paid off”. Aaaaand he’s protesting outside the restaurant with a sign.

A couple thoughts:

A. You need no more fried fish. In fact, if you never ate fried fish again, your body would probably love you for it.

B. This whole “protesting the all-you-can-eat restaurant because they didn’t serve you enough food” thing is exactly why the US has an obesity epidemic.

C. We can just bet there are a few ladies out there who would have pretty funny SFAR stories to submit about dating you, and man would we love to hear from them!

Yowza.

Long-Winded, Passive Aggressive Texter Makes an Uh-Oh

Today, we learned of a fellow New York lady who recently went out with a lawyer she met at a bar. After their first date, he texted her to see whether she wanted to go out again because he “didn’t want to waste his time” (the quintessential New Yorker’s approach to dating).

The resulting texting exchange that ensued is not only entertaining, but gives us a look into the mind of someone who’s just been rejected. In this guy’s case is goes like this: 1) Rate the girl on some 10 point scale that apparently applies to all women everywhere and puts a quantifiable number on their worthiness of your attention, affirm to your bros that she is in fact only “average.” 2) Tell yourself, and her for that matter, that she was the lucky one to be graced by your fedora-wearing, avenger-watching presence.

Fifty Shades of Grey has caused somewhat of a sensation in the US as women of all ages have scrambled to get their hands on this much talked about book of taboo sex.

The book (and it’s follow-ups, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed) have stirred many debates and varied opinions about the impact on women. Are these books fun and harmless? Do they portray negative images and ideals of women? Well, it depends on who you ask.

January Jones, We Salute You

If you read our blog regularly, you probably know that we have mad love for January Jones. We think she is awesome. In addition to her stellar on-going performances in AMC’s Mad Men, which we adore, she is a strong independent woman who stands up for important causes and has chosen to raise a child as a single woman. Recently we saw an article in UK Daily Mail with photos of January shopping with her young son, Xander. The pub made cracks about her jeans and socks, to which we reply, “Really? She is grocery shopping in manic Manhattan with her child in tow. She can wear whatever she wants!!” More importantly, look how naturally gorgeous she looks. Wow- so beautiful. And she has a protective look on her face. Love it.

Two days later, she was photographed (also in Manhattan) attending the Met Ball, where she looked AWESOME.

January sported a slick, basic hair style with bold make-up and necklace and a totally unique and shape-loving floor-length yellow dress. She looked incredible. January proves that strong single women can work it, from downtown grocery shopping with a kid in-tow, to uptown glamorous red carpets. She does it as a single lady and does it with strength and poise. We love you, January!

Now SHE is a woman we look up to!

Ps. Does Xander resemble a certain funny man in town? We think we spy a miniature Sudeikis. If so, that kid has a pair of talented genes.
